We no longer understand how to generate wealth. We think we do, but we don’t. We marvel at the ability of companies such as Amazon.com Inc. and Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. to bend economies to their will, yet we spend little time thinking about how those companies became so big.
Our lack of curiosity is impeding Canada’s ability to generate the economic growth that will be necessary to fund the healthcare system, schools and universities, and public pensions. By sticking with an outdated view of how the economy works, we are leaving money on the table.
